On December 14 and 15th 2018, St. Mary’s hosted the 9th Annual Fred Sava Basketball Jamboree, where the St. Mary’s Titans Basketball Team faced 5 teams from all across the country. Coach Fred Sava was St. Mary’s most successful basketball coach, who suddenly passed away from illness in 2010. The bleachers were full of people excited to watch the games over the weekend.

The St. Mary’s Titans opened up the Fred Sava Jamboree with a 63 to 47 win over Jiyugaoka Gakuen. This was not the first time that the Titans faced the Jiyugaoka Gakuen basketball team. In the first game St. Mary’s barely won the game with a buzzer beating shot. However, the Titans were able to easily beat Jiyugaoka Gakuen the second time with a 16 point gap. The game was described as “easy and light” by Alister Jones (a player from the Titans).

After defeating the Jiyugaoka Gakuen Basketball Team with ease, the Titans were faced with a tougher opponent, the Jiyugaoka Old Boys. Although the game was very close and competitive, the Titans were able to close out the game with a  51-50 victory against the Jiyugaoka Old Boys.

The Titans opened up the second day of the Tournament by cruising over CAJ with a 43-28 win. They were able to keep the streak going when they blew past the Canadian Academy with a 61-34 win. Finally, to close out the tournament, the Titans went against the Kasukabe Basketball Team and were able to keep of title of being undefeated after a rewarding 48-33 win.

The undefeated performance from the Titans over the weekend was spectacular and was truly a highlight of their basketball season. The Titans will face ASIJ, their toughest rivals, on February 1st in an away game at ASIJ.
