Magic the gathering (MTG)is a card game created by Richard Garfield. Released in 1993 by Wizards of the Coast, MTG was the the first trading card game created. It continues to thrive, with approximately twenty million players as of 2015, and over twenty billion Magic cards produced the period of 2008 to 2016 alone.
Last year, St Mary started the MTG club. The club was created by Konstantin Meyzer Zu Brickewedde during his junior year. He was introduced to this game by Mr. Gardonio and fully fell in love with it. His reason behind starting the club is to spread the knowledge of MTG and give people a chance to play MTG. “I started to play in 10th grade when we had enrichment times. However with those classes being taken away I thought that I should start a club to continue the opportunity for players to learn how to play.” The advantage of the club is that there is no scheduled playing time; if you want to play a game, you can just easily enter Mr.Gardonio’s room and start playing with him. Furthermore, Mr.Gardonio provides printed decks and premade decks so that students will not be required to pay for the cards(as they can cost a small fortune).
Playing MTG will help you interact with different people. When you are playing with students that you do not know, it is common to introduce yourself at the start of the game; over time, many of those people may become your friends. Another benefit of playing MTG is that it helps you develop your decision making skills. MTG is a game with hundreds of choices. Most of them are small ones, but like in life, over time the decisions you make develop the outcome of the game drastically.
